Ive been sitting on this for like 3 days now so i should probably finish it. I went on a solo trip to LA a few weeks ago to see a hololive concert, I also bought a ticket to AX because i wanted some other things to do while i was there. Started out kinda shaky because I got on a plane not knowing if i would have a place to stay or not (hotel said it was 21+ when the site didn’t), but they let me check in without any issues. early too!
Whole trip was fun and all, saw the concert I originally planned to go go see. Ended up carpooling with some random people completely by chance just because i had a shirt on and they asked if i wanted to share an uber! Was some guy from texas with his girlfriend from new york, we all crammed into the back fo a tesla model 3 and rode to their hotel, i walked to the concert with the guy and had a semi awkward conversation about hololive and whatever else there was. Told him thanks for the ride when we finally got there, then we parted ways and i never saw him again. The whole deal was amazing because i got a ride for 11 bucks while the rate for an uber was close to 60. The ones i was able to call couldn’t even find me.
The concert itself was also really fun. I was seated in the club so i had a really good view of the stage. I was seated between two fat people, one smelled like piss. He asked me “who is your oshi” when i sat down which i think is kinda funny (mori and suisei btw!). The entire section was empty except for that row which was crazy considering that these seats sold out in literally 2 minutes. Had a lot of fun waving my penlight around and all the other stuff you do at idol concerts.
Getting home (the hotel) was even crazier for different reasons, when the concert ended ubers went from 20 to 100 in 3 mins and my phone was on 18%. I brought a portable charger with me but my lightning port decided to break during this trip, making it totally useless. I got through this by keeping my phone off during the concert and only checking prices every few mins. despite this i still ended up having to wait almost an hour for prices to fall and i had 5% when i finally got in an uber. If i had died i would have had to ask around for a carpool back to the con. Overpaid some migrant who only knew the world “hotdog” while i was waiting. I tried to bargain with her but i also think she raised the price for me. she originally quoted 10 and dropped it to 8, but i heard her quote someone 8 a few mins before. Was okay and that was my dinner for the night. I got sick and had to drop a bomb in the Marriot bathroom the next day but im unsure if that was related.
AX was where i feel the trip really shined for me, despite being the secondary reason I even went, i ended up spending almost all my time there. I originally thought id have to find other stuff to do in la but it never really crossed my mind. spent all day walking around a building with thousands of people in it while looking at overpriced merch that i had no intention of buying. only saw a few panels but i honestly just liked being there. Went and danced at neon district on that last day which I thought was super fun despite the set allegedly being mid af. first time ive ever been to something like that so idk what good sounds like. I also felt like i was gonna collapse of dehydration on the first day and ended up spending 8 bucks on a can of coke.
Met a guy from discord while i was there so i could give him my 18+ band. He could get into some lewdtuber panel, i decided to go and ended up walking out within 20 mins. The only decent model there was the one project melody was using. Cant believe people jerk off to the other ones as they look like absolute garbage. Neon district was also going on at the same time and I wanted to go to that instead. stayed at that till like 12 am (it ended at 2) would have stayed longer but i had a flight out to catch the next morning. Ended up getting up way too early for lax and was able to catch an earlier flight out. The plane was basically empty on a holiday so i got a bump and an entire row to myself!
I could write a lot more about this trip but the trip itself isn’t really what i wanted to write about here. I feel like something changed in me while i was on this trip, not anime related or anything but something more internal. Im a lot happier when im free of my family and able to make my own decisions. I felt something similar when i was living in California taking care of my grandpas house. And now that im home im craving that feeling and wanting to move out more than ever.
Already planning next year.
